Services

Most roof calls around Florence fall into one of five kinds of work. A leak that showed up after a summer storm, a 25-year-old shingle roof that has started shedding granules into the gutters, a pine limb through the decking, a metal roof on a farm building that needs new fasteners, or a flat roof over a shop on Irby Street. Each one gets its own page below, with what the job involves and how we go about it.

If you are not sure which one fits, that is normal. Most people only know that water is coming in or that the roof looks tired. Tell us what you are seeing and we will sort out which kind of job it is once someone has been up there.

The five services

Roof repair covers leaks, missing or creased shingles, failed pipe boots, flashing that has pulled loose at a chimney or wall, and soft spots in the decking. It is the work most homes need first.

Roof replacement is a full tear-off down to the deck, new underlayment, flashing and shingles, and cleanup of every nail in the yard. On a lot of 1960s brick ranches around town, this is the second or third roof the house has worn.

Storm damage repair is for wind, hail and fallen trees: tarping first when it is raining in, then documenting what the storm did so the repair matches it.

Metal roofing covers new standing seam and exposed-fastener panels, plus repair of older metal roofs on houses, barns and sheds.

Commercial and flat roofing handles low-slope roofs on shops, churches, offices and warehouses, where ponding water and tired seams cause most of the trouble.

Repair or replace?

This is the question we hear most. A roof with one bad spot and good shingles everywhere else is a repair. A roof where the shingles crack when you bend them, the valleys are worn through and leaks keep moving around is usually past patching, and money spent chasing leaks on it tends to be wasted. In a climate this wet, a roof that is borderline does not stay borderline for long. If repair makes sense, we say so, and you can read more about how we handle leaks and patch work before you send anything.

Getting it looked at

Send the form with a few lines about what is going on: where the water shows up, how old the roof is if you know, and whether it is shingle, metal or flat. We call back, set a time, and get on the roof. The same goes for every town we cover around the Pee Dee, which are listed on our service area page.
